That stood out to me. Most people are right handed, so the shield is carried on the left arm, the sword in the right hand. The FLOTUS Marine would be in a better position to protect her. I know there's not a literal shield but we salute friendlies with our right hand so they can see we aren't trying to hide a weapon. Many traditions go all the way back.
