I am a general class ham. I have been looking for discussions on HF regarding current events. A few minutes ago I came across a discussion on 40 meters at 7235 khz that was about the impeachment backfiring and the hidden truth being dropped as a result. Suddenly the two guys discussing it disappeared, and a couple of guys with much weaker signals started talking about HCQ. I've been listening for about 20 minutes and have heard no call signs.
Does anyone here know of any HF frequencies commonly used for this type of discussion? Q was never mentioned, but these guys obviously have been red pilled.
I was listening to repeaters in DC and I've heard nothing.
In my area you almost never hear anything on the repeaters, even though there are 20 within range.
Discussion of "conspiracy theories" are pretty much verboten.
HF is way more fun even though most on it are staunchly blue pilled..
WTF is it about HAMs that make so many blue-pilled?
A lot of hams are Masons.
A lot of hams are old school cold warriors that cannot believe what is going on.
That makes a lot of sense. I'm inheriting a 15' tall stack of QSL magazines. Lucky me.
That IS lucky. A wealth of information.
Ever notice that Q sent folks to voat.co/QRV?
Are_You_Ready
Yeah, I always wonder why.
Voat was a shit hole.
I kinda miss it sometimes.
Typically politics and religion are not discussed on ham radio. Not saying ever, just unwritten rule. I'm a HAM...
Interesting - not my thing - but interesting - what gear do you buy ?
The OP, or is this a general question (no pun intended?) There are a number of manufacturers out there. More antenna configurations than you can shake a stick at. Radios can be old "boat anchor" tube radios, or solid-state rigs, or even SDRs which are more computer peripherals with an antenna connection that have a USB connection to a PC that's used to drive them. For money you can go cheap or go expensive. My fervent wish is that when I die, my wife doesn't sell my radios for what I told her I paid for them.
These days even cheap is expensive except for those Chinese Baofeng types.
Yeah. Radios like the 718 or 706 look like they're going for $350-450. The next tier is like $700-800. I have an Elecraft KX3 - that's like $900 plus the amp for another thousand or so. Not a cheap hobby by any stretch.

Here is a web based, controllable receiver.
That's crazy.
Thanks.
I'm running an Icom IC-718 into an off center fed dipole. Max output is only 100 watts so I depend on propagation to transmit.
I’m exploring getting my license reinstated or re-exam fight now. Advance class license. I was a code guy myself...CQ CQ CQ
You will want to look into this.

There isn't an Advanced Class anymore, but all you have to take to get a license is the General Class test. If you pass, you can take the Extra Class test immediately
Thank you for this. I did see where advanced was removed. I got my novice license at 11 and technician license at 12. Been a few years ago!! ?
There's a repeater that is interlinked with the Vermont Allstar Network that I occasionally listen to. The node that I hear is in the southern Poconos of PA. The repeater is on 70cm.
I haven't pulled out my HF rig in a while. No reason other than I'm busy. Might be time to put a wire in the air and give a listen.
