I'm starting to think that this is a side effect of the isolation. (Aside from people who just plain enjoy anything that they think makes them special).

These people feel as though they're part of some brotherhood, acting for the good of all. It gives them a sense of belonging/unity in a world that's been ripped away from us.

That's why those of us who have always felt like outsiders are less likely to need this sort of confirmation of who we are.
