I was 20 years old stationed in Germany with the US Army. My Dad mailed me Rush's first book. Shortly after that AFRTS started playing one hour of Rush's radio show. If I remember correctly it was at noon.
My Dad had always kept me aware of politics when I was growing up. In High School I always felt like the only awake guy in my peer group. When I read Rush's book I realized I wasn't alone. Then listening to his radio show I could hear all the callers that sounded just like me.
Once the internet got big, I found forums for all my hobbies. Military History, food, travel, competitive shooting. But until then, there was only Rush.
I was disappointed he never did any further books after those two huge best-sellers in the early '90s. I do remember though, around the time the Iraq War started, him mentioning on the air that he had a third book planned. He even floated a title, "What You Expect". A few years later he suggested another title, "The Back Nine" (sounded more like a memoir). Sad it never came to pass.

RIP Rush. Thanks for the memories.
