My point is, there was a time when some teachers actually traversed the real world and taught. They were the best. Loved them. But yes, academia has always been dominated by ivory tower types.
There are outliers - always. I thank God for them -- putting up with the persecution to teach (& those outliers are, in my experience, usually male and math/science instructors. On occasion business.
