This is why I don’t understand buying gold. When times are tough you’re not gonna be able to wipe your ass with gold!

That's not the purpose of gold. You buy all your preps. Then, if you have a good bit of wealth left over, you buy silver and gold as a way to store your wealth until after SHTF finally goes away and things get back to normal. Gold always has been a store of value and always will be.
