I think the Catholic Church kept the Apocrypha for themselves. The Top Brass are all Gnostics; but they've chosen to throw their faith behind The Demiurge and gain worldly power instead of spiritual enlightenment.

I have also run out of beers, or anything else that might aid this conversation.

Roman Catholics have wanted to keep a lot of books for themselves. Luther and Calvin thought well of the Apocrypha and when one is thoroughly grounded in the inspired Word of God (66 books) one can enjoy Apocrypha like one would the Didache or Odes of Solomon. Bel and the Dragon is a classic shaggy-dog story with an undying punchline.
