I wrote a couple of thoughts in a comment a while ago, here's a link if you want to try and garner some general tips.

If you read my preferred options in that comment it says government minted coins then bars but at the moment the premiums are pretty high on coins and a bit better on bars so just do some basic math to determine how much premium over spot the option you're considering is. You may not have much choice given availability.
