I have to finally ask, wtf is a nuclear football?!? Is it a football? A box the size of a football? Is it the codes and he’s just the quarterback? Is it a briefcase? Is it physical at all? An idea? I thought there was a red phone or button on the desk in the Oval Office. That sounds kind of cartoony but everyone has been talking about a football I’ve only heard of since January and I CAN NOT figure it out from context clues.

It’s a set of launch codes that must be verified by the military before anything nuclear can be launched. There are fail safes. It is not a physical “button”.

The president DOES NOT have the arbitrary power to launch nukes on his own.
