I believe VET in this case means "VETERAN OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY SERVICES" as opposed to "Veterinarian, Animal Doctor". :)

I was attempting to clarify why the person may not have "as much medical training as human docs" because the VET acronym doesn't necessarily mean "animal doctor". :)
