A person at rest in 58 degree ambiance needs insulation to maintain a viable temperature. It is not weird at all either for sorority girls to be drunk, or drunk people to pass out in the cold and die. At 8 degrees that could happen pretty fast.
Sadly, it is an old story, it happens every year and at every age. Not always drunk. The record for surviving hypothermia used to be another young woman who passed out and had a core temperature of about 60 degrees when found. She lost toes and fingers.

I thought it was an old news story because this just happened a couple years ago to another gal.
