Had this same train of thought but of manufacturing. Making stuff that actually lasts, that doesn't have 5 year break down cycles engineered into it.
Imagine a fridge, with easily replaced wear items and motor / pump that would last 30 years. People would pay more for it but they wouldn't have to pay much more than we are getting grifted these days for appliances that are also so costly to repair they are disposable.
I do think there will be a resurgence of Made in America and for craftsmanship. Look at the older buildings, a PIA to put modern HVAC in but they had character. It would be heaven to see craftsmanship and pride in work return.
That’s why I’m almost entirely buying Japanese or Korean, they know their stuff when it comes to manufacturing. And we could learn a hella lot about work ethic from that culture.
A lot of US stuff is good...just gotta pay more for it. I have an Ariens Pro snowthrower that is the actual shit, Briggs engine and all, but it cost me $3k
