Look at how much they hate him, and the ridiculous lengths they go to stand in opposition of him or otherwise hurt him. I think they thought he was one of them (or at least one of their tools), but he proved to be the opposite at a critical time.
Kinda like how Islam will tolerate infidels (as long as they are useful), but apostates are purged with extreme hatred and malice.
They used to love him, but at one point something snapped (i.e. they realized he wasn't under their control), and it seems to be about the time he captured the Republican nomination. I firmly believe he was supposed to be Perot 2.0: Lose the nomination either by primary vote or Party Convention shenanigans (see the Ryan/Pence 2016 ticket info that's come out ... which is why Trump picked Pence instead of Flynn as his VP), and then throw a big tantrum, running as an Independent (which would split the vote again, ensuring an un-electable sneaks in).
Yes my problem is that I was very late to this - I wasn't much interested, but the interest I did have went no further than Trump is not a good person and people who follow him are dumb (sorry! I just didn't know any better, even though I sure thought I was wise!). However, it's interesting to me that the day before the 2016 election, despite me being very left wing and a woman, i remember going to bed thinking, I think it would be better if Trump won than Hilary. I just had this sense that it was better to have a person's flaws on display rather than have a deeply flawed person who pretends to be better than they are. I then blocked it all out until last summer, at which point i started to see a side of trump and those who support him that i hadn't seen before, and really, the more I saw, the more I found my views changing...
I want to believe that Trump is the good guy, but I've been played so many times, it's hard to trust my own instincts anymore...

Well, at this point, "Nothing Can Stop What Is Coming", so "Enjoy the Show" :)
