At the end of the day a lot of this has to do with history and traditions. These colleges have been around a long time. I lived in a college town and the school has been around since 1890, went to a lot of games as a kid. There's more pride and fervour in college athletics than professional sports that's for sure. The sad truth is we could do away with all team names, colors, songs, and traditions, go to a Green v Blue with vanilla uniforms no songs or logos or names every Saturday/Sunday. But "progressives" would find an issue with that as well.
OU fan here (Boomer Sooner!) and the way OUr guys hand it to Texas is fun to watch. That said, Sam E. seems to understand what it means to have pride in his team. He had a hothead coach who did him no favors.
BOOMER! Been to several cotton bowls... always hated the sound of Eyes of Texas, but now I feel much differently. UT is the last program I would have expected this cancel crap to take hold in.... but then again they tried to prohibit us from throwing upside down horns.....
Oh, yes!! Friggin identity politics are RETARDED!
SOONER!! Horns down.
I've been waiting for conservatives to flex their muscles on some sjw b.s.. UT will probably rein in the activist stuff before they start hemorrhaging donor money but I hope they don't just to see what happens.
I used to work for a small mid-western university. Trust me when donors speak the school listens!
