I take folic acid every day. Basically I have the more severe mutation, my body only uses about 10% of the Folic i take in. I experienced depression and migraines for many years. Only got tested for it bc the doctors couldnt find anything else wrong with me after several days in hospital.
Oddly my bad cholesterol is low but my good is also low.
I tell people I have a genetic condition called MTHFR or "Motherfucker" LOL.
Hahaha That's always what I think when I see the acronym lol
I've heard folate is much better for your body than the synthetic folic acid. May be something worth looking into.
My husband has bad headaches frequently, especially when there are low pressure systems. Although, come to think about it, I don't recall him complaining of a headache in a while. He started the B-vitamin regimen (B complex and B-12 with B-6 on top of that) at the beginning of February. So it's been about a month.
His bad cholesterol is a little high, but his good is very low. Exercise is the best way to boost good cholesterol, but he was constantly feeling blah and down and just really drained, so it was hard for him to want to exercise. I'm hoping he can start now that he's feeling better because his dad had a bad stroke in his 60's, and that does worry me.
I'm shocked that this isn't more widely talked about. It seems very common and has links to ADHD, Autism, depression, anxiety, Parkinsons, Dementia, Alzheimers, Bipolar Disorder, infertility/miscarriages, etc. etc. etc. Sooooo many things seem to be affect by this and the treatment is so simple. Of course drug companies don't want simple fixes. They don't make money from those........
Yes I sometimes buy methylfolate because it is already methylated so body can use it as-is. But I get the folic acid at the grocery store whereas ppl look at me funny even at GNC when I ask for methylfolate lol
Yeah it's widely spread (30% of pop estimated to have) and linked to everything. Blood test is expensive and takes 2 days so thats why they don't often test unless there's a reason.
My migraines are very liveable now and mostly during low pressure systems as well.
I'm so glad you were able to get to the bottom of this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with me. I am even more sure now this is what's been wrong with my poor husband.
It's been really hard to feel so helpless as his wife. I've watched him struggle for years and tried so hard to help him. We found things like beets, NAC, and magnesium helped alleviate some of his symptoms. And his symptoms would sometimes get better for no apparent reason. (I'm guessing that was in times he was getting more B vitamins in his diet). It was maddening.
It's such a relief when my husband calls me every day at lunch, and I hear his chipper happy voice on the other end instead of his doom and gloom tone that he had most of the time. And we hope and pray that somehow THIS is the answer, and we will finally have a sweet baby all of our own.
Oh I do have another question. Are you allergic to laughing gas? This and the fact that my husband had a severe reaction when he took half an edible is the reason we started looking into all of this in the first place. It was honestly an accident that we found out this could cause fertility issues.
No idea about the laughing gas thing. only had it once when i got my wisdom teeth out. stayed awake the whole time but no bad reactions otherwise.
Do you have a sister? My wife divorced me after the strokes. I guess its the meds but my sex drive declined and I got a little depressed writing my last book -- understandable, it's about unsolved murders -- and I was shitcanned.
You're welcome, always happy to preach the gospel of MTHFR to try to help others avoid what i went through
