Don't use Avast and uninstall it. They've been doing lots of shit in the past. Look up "Avast scandal". They are pretty much spyware and have become more of a security risk than something beneficial.
Yeah, they went downhill fast sometime in the past several years and they started getting really pushy with the ads. The data harvesting scandal was the last push I needed to "jump ship".
I've been using the same cracked version of Avira Phantom for over a year with no problems. I don't give a fuck who gets my data, it's useless to them. I don't bank, I don't do shit with it aside from dig and watch vids. Enjoy my data on the sly, rand0m Indian app cracker. \m/ \m/
What if they controlled your computer to hack other systems or download child porn? You seriously have to be careful with what you install on your system.
I disable a lot of windows features through group policy editor. I'm familiar with what processes etc should be running on my machines - it's hard to get one past me.
Your best bet to determine whether a system is compromised or not would be have a router where you can monitor all the connections being made, the amount of data routed to that domain, and the times. Then you'll know if there's suspicious traffic being routed. Of course, all this could be masked by hopping through Amazon or Google cloud
Yea. That's a good way to build a false sense of confidence. If I were writing malware/spyware, I'd do something like this to prevent the process from showing up in task manager:
Are you under the impression that Task Manager is the only place I keep an eye on because I previously mentioned "processes etc"?. I'm having trouble following this conversation because you're telling me things I'm well aware of.
Look, Fren, I have been intentionally vague but I've been doing this for decades. I'm no stranger to these machines/the internet. Appreciate you trying to help but you're pissing in the wind. Since you know I use Windows and cracked software, you should have worked out that I'm familiar with how firewalls work - otherwise I wouldn't be able to install it in most cases.

I use Sophos home, even if they blocked it there is an exceptions list you can edit.
Currently using Kaspersky, no problems here.
If the exceptions don't work (in my case) the web shield function can be disabled...as that is what blocks GAw..
I'm a long time Norton user (1991) and have no problem with it.
Norton for the win.

Why would you install a cracked antivirus?
I don't use antivirus.

"But like that's not even possible."
You'd be surprised what all IS possible.
