1980s: Government worker Dr. Fauci downplayed a viral disease until he and big pharma could profit off of treating it, then started exaggerating how contagious it was to everyone (not just certain demographics). Instead of protesting against the profiteers, puritan zealots blamed the spread on the rebellious lifestyle choices of a community who especially loved the song YMCA.
