My elderly mom thought the stimulus rebate debit card was like the "free" credit card offers we used to get in college (boomer here - you may be too young to remember). She had no use for another credit card, so she tossed it. She has several friends who did the same thing. Fortunately, the government is replacing it after a phone call. Oops - maybe those debit stimulus cards weren't such a good idea after all...

Our bank let us pull out the full amount on a terminal set aside for that purpose. We just deposited it, but they didn't take any fee from it. Statewide credit union.

Folks ditch the bank and join a local credit union they will treat you much better
