My elderly mom thought the stimulus rebate debit card was like the "free" credit card offers we used to get in college (boomer here - you may be too young to remember). She had no use for another credit card, so she tossed it. She has several friends who did the same thing. Fortunately, the government is replacing it after a phone call. Oops - maybe those debit stimulus cards weren't such a good idea after all...

Were they going to send her a new card or an official looking envelope and a paper check ?
No idea. I don't think we'll know until it shows up.
I hate to admit that I MAY have been a dumb elder who MAY have trashed it because I get BS cards in the mail a few times a week . I was looking for a gold colored envelope with an obvious US Treasury check in the window like my last one or a direct deposit like my SS check or tax refund . If I was one such elder I will spend Monday on the phone.
Nothing dumb about it, fren. It was poor planning on the government's part. It's fixable.
