Probably because there are still people alive who were segregated by law based on skin color, and who were subject to Jim Crow laws. And their experience filters down to the children and grandchildren. It's less in the later generations.

Also we have the Marxist Socialists stirring the pot and fanning the flames. It's important that we combat this. They are trying to get whites against blacks again.
