I woouldn't so much say good, he has a lot of faults but he is much like Saddam Hussain, he is keeping something much worse at bay. Saddam Hussain kept it safe for Christians (Mainly Orthodox ones) to practice religion while keeping what was much worse at bay. The only difference is the American smear campaign against Putin didn't seem to work as well not to mention Russia is a MUCH MUCH larger country.

The thing about the middle east that most people don't realize is they have had a system for the way their government works for a very long time, one that we don't understand as history goes to show, and we think we can just ride on up and "liberate" them and poof they are ready for democracy. It seeped in religion of different factions fighting and sometimes the bad guy is really the better guy because he is keeping a much worse guy at bay.

Since America "liberated" Iraq it is unsafe to be a Christian, the violence is far worse than before, and the quality of living is trash now. Even for some Islamic sects its worse than before because the ultra "conservative" ones are in control and trying to destroy anything slightly moderate.
