I'm old enough to remember (pretty old) when Drs Salk and Sabin developed 2 different kinds of polio vaccines- 1 that was oral and another given via a needle. Getting ready to start first grade I sweated bullets about getting the shot and hoping for the sugar cube dose. I got the shot. No polio so far, as far as I know.

i got the shot as a child in toledo ohio, circa 1959. Then a few years later living in CA they gave us the sugar cubes. So I got both.
