To preppers i would recommend buying radios that you can service yourself if needed. These things do fail. If thats not for you, buy the cheapest you can find that checks your boxes and buy twice as many as you think you will need. General class hamfag
Yeah, but radios these days are more like computers. I discovered that while making the MARS mod to my IC706. Had to get a magnifying headset to see the damn circuit board. I wouldn't DARE try anything to mod my TH-D74. :)
Better to get a bunch of cheap Baofengs and be done with it.

Yes agree. The nice thing about Yaesu rigs is they mostly all have a jumper or 0 ohm you can remove for mars/cap
