We have no word of their travels. And more importantly, we have no word of their capture.
We must amass our forces to draw all eyes to US, so our noble operators in the shadows may move unencumbered and unseen.
The end won't be for everyone.
I can't remember if it was in the movie or not, but in the book one of the most somber moments is when Gandalf and the army he leads is negotiating with one of Sauron's henchman. The henchman makes a gesture, and the Orcs throw a pile of Old hobbit clothes, Sam and Frodo's cloak, and some other of their items. And tells Gandalf that their errand failed. For a moment, Gandalf seems ready to surrender, and even asks for terms.
(later we find out how Frodo and Sam lost their raiments, but... like you said... Gandalf himself wouldn't know)
Yes, in Return of the King, they meet with the Mouth of Sauron at the gate, before the final battle as just before Frodo and Sam enter Mt. Doom. Mouth of Sauron tosses Frodo’s chain mail shirt at them, claiming he’s dead. They ride back to their troops, and Aragorn gives one of the greatest speeches in cinematic history. ?
I swear LOTR is the greatest work of fiction in all of history. I can quote lines that fit every turn of our situation; hell, it mirrors it almost precisely in a lot of ways.

"Look to my coming, at first light, on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East."

Yes but do they have their passports?
Does that mean Trump the giant eagle will save them when all seems lost?
Smaug-level at 5:5.
