I mean 17?!?! Really? Coincidence?!?! No such thing ?.

So, am I missing a rational, obvious explanation for this number assigned to the UK variant? Or is it as it seems to me?

Gotta isolate a virus before you can say there's a variant. So far no one has seen a Covid-19 virus.

Which makes the 11”17” variant all the more curious.
