There is an interesting series on Youtube (grab it while it is still up) called 'Programmed To Kill' by Stefano.

Talks bout this sort of stuff, how serial killers appeared to not be working alone but be part of something bigger.

The grammar in the videos is a little off and I do wish there were more sources. Still good enough to check out.
