I work in South Korea. Everyone here wears masks even when they are outside. I've seen joggers running with masks. It's crazy. You can sit inside a coffee shop without one, but God forbid you get seen outdoors without one. It's the most insane version of group think I've ever seen. My boss' dad was a politician, she knows how they can lie and previously I appreciated her level of critical thinking. But now... I refuse to wear a mask outside. She saw me on the street and asked me to put it on. i refused. I was reamed out for being unscientific and reckless. I didn't budge. Even if I thought masks work, I do not see the benefit of wearing one 24/7.
Just needed to vent a little. I'm leaving Korea soon, so quiting my job atm is not an option. Like I said, just needed to vent.
Yeah, the Koreans are pretty good at groupthink. I’m actually here in China and the only place people are really wearing masks are on public transport and in hospitals. Most Chinese people know that masks are bullshit.
Chinese people, long ago learned to ignore most of the government bullshit coming out of the TV. Unfortunately, Americans haven’t learned the lesson that corporations can put out way more bullshit than any government ever could.
I kid you not, but the reason koreans think the virus has been so well contained here is because everyone wears masks. Doesn't matter that they all constantly adjust them, take them off to wipe their faces with their hands and then put them back and don't wash their hands or take them off for food and put them on the table. Nope as long as you have mask on when you are in public. I realised long ago, this isn't about health. This is about compliance. The koreans excell at that.
