Because this was the beginning of her 18th season.

Last summer it was a big deal that Ellen was canceled, house arrested, ankle monitor, but here she is in the studio in the middle of her 18th season. Not canceled. Sure the audience is virtual "because of covid" but her show is not canceled.

I'm afraid when covid is over, everything is going to come right back online, all of the "house arrests" we were told were absolutely false.
