You could definitely make a very good argument for this.
I argued this with my own parents. Said to my Dad: "How did Hitler convince them to kill six million of us and all the rest?" He knew the answer. "Newspapers, television..."
"So why do you think that can't happen here?"
"The government doesn't own the news."
"They're buddy-buddy, can't you see?"
Nope.
My mother wasn't sure why I'd insist her MSM was propaganda when the independent sources I find aren't.
Me: "If I'm a propagandist with resources, would I want the support of the giant network seen in all the airport terminals, or a blog on the internet that a couple hundred people read?"
Her: ...... why do you think mine is propaganda and not yours? (repeat)
Rose colored glasses or just plain old willful ignorance. You realize as soon as they get a millimeter past this rut that pandora's box is leashed upon them. Big, fat, red, pill. It's almost like being in an abusive relationship - the victim deals with it because that's all they know, but the moment they understand they are being controlled - that's when the REAL trial begins for them. A lot of people would rather just deal with it than do anything about it.
There was a Chabadic Rabbi --- he knew my parents. He shared my politics (though he tried to keep politics out of his work)
He said something pretty profound: People rationalize, and don't really change their deep beliefs, even if they are wrong, by facts or argument.
What makes them change is a shock to the system. When they see something they just can't rationalize.
I'm sure many of us hoped the Steal would be the shock to our Liberal relatives, but that wasn't the case.
It's also why many people talk about their Red-pill moment.
