White hats: something is in the containers OR something was supposed to travel through the canal either from the north or from the south, but now cannot travel that way. Cargo either needs to be off-loaded once the ship can go to a different port and travel across land or the ship will have to go around the Horn.
This won't help China, the Suez is part of their global strategy. I think there's a military reason. u/doyle64 may be onto something, the cargo is not valuable except as part of a blockade.
