I was there recently and it truly is spectacular.
I love hotel designs like this. Huge waste of space but boy does it look amazing coming out of your room to a giant atrium.
Yes, I agree.
Though this was a historic landmark (an old post office building) and I think there were limits in terms of how the hotel would be designed...not sure, though?
I've never actually stayed at the hotel, but have been in the lobby and at the restaurant for dinner.
We stayed at a Holiday Inn in Rapid City SD that was like this, I don't know what it was originally before having the Holiday Inn name on it but it definitely beat the usual walking down a maze of hallways that most hotels are.
He didn't build it, he leases it from the US. It is called the Old post office, and has the congress bells in the top. The last known official postmaster of the constitutional laws resided here until he fell 90 foot to his death. It has a history of attempted to be demolished by the DS multiple times and 20 years after it was built, they built the federal triangle.. There is a lot of reading on it, James K. Willett was the postmaster, he's almost been scrubbed from the internet, I'll try to post some more info later
The old post office? I dont have time to relisted to this but I believe that old post office was mentioned in this video. May be nothing...but if anyones interested..I remover it being after mid way point.

Trump didn't build it. It was US Postal service HQ for a long time. Now he leases it as a hotel.
fun fact, the tower on the top of the building is actually managed by the park service. The elevator to go to the top is absolutely free, gives one of the best views of the city, and is rarely visited.
On the way up, you get to walk through some hallways glassed off which give you a fantastic view of the hotel lobby as well. Highly recommended. Bathrooms are sice too.
