Yes that’s exactly how they’re designed. In fact WTC 1/2 were engineered to withstand impact of 2 747’s specifically. It’s why the fireproofed vertical columns are staggered horizontally - to provide staggered RESISTANCE against the load above it, many times it’s normal resting state.
