You missed the fact that the island above guanzhangping has vanished as well as the smaller islands to its left.
If the water had reduced they would have a bigger spread.
So conclusion no 1 there is more water to the left of the dam as they are now submerged or conclusion no2 the Chinese have doctored the filter from natural muddy waters to “deep blue perfect all is good now Mr Xi” a shade of blue the Chinese use a lot.
And look at the peninsula shaped part of land in bottom left corner - the little island is completely gone (submerged?) and the shore line of the peninsula is a lot further inland.
spez: also, if you look to the right in the photos, the development near Sandoupingzhen (about 11 o clock) is less developed (the white structures) than it was in the 6 months earlier photo. Same with the town south of the name on the map.
