279 I was researching the cause of polio. It seems it’s caused by the contamination of water with feces (and ingesting). Modern plumbing, hygiene, and cleaner water is responsible for the lack of polio around the world not vaccines. I think there’s parts of Africa and India that you can still get it because they drink the water from a (slow moving) river that they bathe and poop and animals poop in. They may not wash their hands well after working with animals either.

They don't wear shoes, going barefoot and stepping in dung one can pick up many diseases, including parasites which are common in those countries.
