I have actually twisted this problem around so that it becomes an advantage in the long run. It teaches me to be skeptical of everything, from all sources - especially the things that I really, really want to be true... but which then prove not to be true.

As a result, I end up learning to focus on the things in my life that are important and that are also in my control, instead of getting all worked up about things that I have no control over at all. I learn to adapt to the things beyond my control (or find ways to circumvent them) while also working to improve everything that I can, as much as I can (usually at a local or regional level).
