So a friend of mine from college worked at google after graduating back in the “don’t be evil” days. He said the rest of the sentence they tell you upon hire is “but get as close to that line as possible”. He made a ton of loot for a few years then quit and travels the world now.
There was an article I saw in a benefits newsletter that had the top 20 CEOs that are overpaid according to the board. The gist of the piece was to determine if paying CEOs astronomical sums of money made the company better or if it just made wealthier CEOs (conclusion was the latter). Anyway there was a chart and one of the data points was the average worker bee salary compared to the CEO. You would see the companies where the average worker was earning $40K and the CEO $20M, but number one on the list was the G company. Pinchar earns like $280M but the average worker salary is $258K. I get a lot is options, and while I agree the CEO comp is excessive, I am not exactly feeling sorry for their rank and file. They are obnoxious people.
