It's strange to me that the Aussie govt seems to know how evil CCP are and yet adopt very harsh lock down policies. Are the Aussie States and territories as independent from the federal govt as the United States are? Beacuse that's the only thing that's keeping things from boiling over in USA right now The 50 states serve as a safety valve.

Yes, australian States are independent.

Competitive Federalism at work. Health is a State matter, the Fed has no power over health.
