Sorry, I have to disagree. My heritage comes from ancestors who followed Luther and Calvin, yet I am a firm Trump supporter. So that theory is just sh*t. The main thing Protestants did wrong, in the authorities eyes, is to read the bible in their own language, instead of having it preached to them in Latin. This led to them having meetings where they discussed the finer details with each other. They did not like the trappings of 'traditional' religiosity, so they had simple churches, no stained glass, no gold ornaments etc. Just the book. Some of them became Puritans, i.e. they did not drink, and they wore simple clothes. From there we see Methodists and Baptists forming groups. there is a strong tradition in the USA of such groups.
My Grandfather met my Grandmother in such a group, in fact they were introduced to each other because they both attended meetings, but in different areas in the Netherlands.
How is that evil? By today's standards, we are all familiar with the King James Bible that we can all read. We don't listen to services in Latin anymore. Why is that evil?
Clearly, the Catholic church was doing all sorts of things that were not prescribed in the Bible, like allowing people to pay money to the church for their sins, for example. The church hid behind the Latin so that their activities were obscured. Most people just went along with it, because it was accepted that the priests had all the power when clearly, the power to lead a Christian life lies within us all.
Furthermore, my mother in law's family moved to South Africa to escape the persecution. This was persecution in Flanders, that was so bad, that people had to hide, migrate or be killed, just like the Jews did during WW2.

Are you trying to troll?
This person thinks Calvinists are demons because they don't subscribe to his version of "free will"-ism.
