I dislike Jim Davis for all the reasons you attribute to the cat.

It's been the most sloppily-drawn, boring-ass, phoned-in comic-strip for decades now. But it's got a cat in it, so it'll be in every damned newspaper.

Fortunately nobody reads newspapers anymore.
