It is interesting how the tech companies let political interests take precedent over the work. In my first job, we had a lot of women who were from China, doing applications for insurance. Many had accounting/business degrees and could read and write English well, but their ability to speak held them back. One woman was promoted to run the group. She had a rough go of it because she was 'a country girl' and the others who were from the more metropolitan areas looked down on her. One day there was a huge screaming match in Chinese. The COO put his foot down and that day forward, it was business only and English only because 1) it interfered with the job and 2) he could not tell if there were any harassment/abuse issues that needed to be addressed. I will bet a nickel FB et al has these exact same problems, but I question as to whether anyone puts their foot down.
