As a Mick, I'm certainly no fan of "the butcher's apron" (the British flag) but he did his duty and stood his watch against the u-boats in the North Atlantic and later in the Mediterranean.
To the anonymous downvoter, I made no value judgement of old Phil other than his WWII Naval service. Would you down vote me if I told you that my father, in almost six years of US WWII Army service never left the Continental United States? As someone once said, “orders is orders...”
