October 62 did that to me-I lived in Omaha within the atomics fire storm; when I heard JFK talk about our possible retaliatory strike, I froze and my 17 YO self had an excruciating existential week ahead knowing I could die at any moment...

I'm a bit younger but I did go on to serve as a paratrooper under Reagan.

Those were formative experiences and I feel we were made better for it.

I ended up in the radio room on a CLG flagship-saw much, read much and until the USS Pueblo, couldn't say much!! Read the Ia Drang sitreps as they came off the teletype.. I wish I had copies released...
