Australia has had mandatory check-ins for entering hospitality venues for about a year now under the guise of "contact tracing". Businesses are fined for non compliance.
It started as a hand written ledger at the front door. Full name, email, address, everything. Compliance was poor and hand written ledgers were not reliable. They escalated to electronic format via QR code. Each business subscribed to one of several services provided out in the market. Compliance was shit and staff rarely check your phone. You can also insert false information. Or just take screen capture of a past sign in and show it to them. Nobody ever takes your phone and does an audit. They are just staff that want your business after all, not the Gestapo.
Now the government wants to escalate to a government made app and centralized database based on a QR code system due to compliance problems. All mandatory of course just as before. Will be rolled out over the next few months and will impact more types of businesses.
How long before an armed guard at every door? or a police officer? Gestapo 2.0?
This happened to me at my bank in the deep red south, believe it or not. When things opened up for the first time after the shut down, I went inside and was greeted by a woman who told me I had to sign in (to stand in line to talk to someone!!). There were like 3 people in there. I was confused and started writing my name, and then they wanted address, phone, email, etc. I stopped and said what is this for, exactly? She said “it’s for Covid contact tracing. It’s a requirement.” I said “no thanks, I don’t want to be traced.” And scratched out my name and left. Pretty pissed off, I might add, that I can’t talk to anyone in the bank that holds my cash without being added to some tracking list. A lot of brain dead sheep around these parts sadly.
