I always wondered why the military would even bother doing this. What if they are actually giving people the flu shot instead? And they are going door-to-door to get to people first...

I’d say that might have something to do with it. Providing a simple public service while having other primary objectives. Everybody stays on the same page as to why they are there and no questions are asked.
