I would ask if there are any surgeons here who struggle to breathe through their mask while operating.

I can't speak from personal experience but I have read that operating theatres have an oxygen supply for the reason that a slight oxygen deficiency can go unnoticed by the mask wearer but nevertheless can result in mistakes being made.

Frankly, I'm not certain that this is true because it greatly increases the risk of fire or even explosion.
