Fake news was a term created by MSM to combat the pizzagate research that exploded out of the podesta emails leading up to the 2016 election. Google trends will show you this using comparison trends: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=Pizzagate,Fake%20news

Trump famously took the term and flipped it on them in that famous press conference where he pointed to every one in the press corp and stated... “YOU’RE FAKE NEWS, YOU’RE FAKE NEWS, YOU’RE FAKE NEWS!!!
