Kaan Saraiydan is a professional BS merchant selling wildly hysterical false stories to steer you away from real ones.
Note that it's entirely possible that there are a) weapons on the ship, and b) somebody desires a cattle plague. The lie consists of stitching the two together, then pouncing on you for failing verification after you've relayed it.
