Our (only) vet in the area won't let you accompany your pet indoors. They take you pet at the door and come back out afterwards with your bill (and pet). I feel trapped though - if I don't keep a good relationship with this vet, if my dog gets in an emergency situation, the vet 'won't have any appointments until next week' if you aren't a regular customer. I've already been through this with this guy when I tried to break away with another pet of mine a few years back.
