A friend of mine works at a residential drug treatment facility in a very small town in Michigan. Last week some female residents tested positive for covid, they are not quarantined and have not been informed as to their test results. The manager of the facility has required employees from the woman’s house to also work at the men’s house with no notification there either. The situation is further compromised by the fact that the manager has the facility listed as a medical facility but not provided proper PPE. Employees have been told they must work and they must quarantine in their personal hours for 24 days past the last clients positive testing. Considering people are going to continue get ill my friend is facing ongoing quarantine during her none Working hours indefinitely. Not to mention to poor souls that get sentenced for treatment coming into the dangerous environment. And whether those already there will be released or not.
What should my friend do? She is desperately worried about her clients and she needs her job,
Drug treatment / halfway houses etc. seem to be run by contractors (imh experience). Its all about the gap between contract amount paid by city or state and cost. At times it can get dicey. Contract bidding for Government funds can be cut throat. I agree, the person effected by policy should find a new gig that is more ethical.
It is honorable to serve those truly in need!
