As a 16 yr old white princess, my father bought me a new car. As he handed me the keys, my dad gave me "the talk".
He told me, "now that you are driving, you are going to be exposed to the police, be polite...say, yes sir, no sir, and don't give them any reason to arrest you".
Shortly after this warning, I was pulled over by the police for speeding. While the officer was writing the ticket, I mouthed off by calling him an "insurance salesman".
The next thing I know, I am in jail. Jail is NOT fun.
Called my dad...he let me sit in jail for the night. Thought it would be a good follow-up on "the talk".
IT WAS.
The moral of this story is that cops are there to keep the peace, they are not babysitters, caretakers, de-escalators, jokesters, or counselors. In truth, they don't owe you anything.
THEY stand between YOU and DANGER. They are the wall that makes mundane life possible.
Leave them alone, do nothing to bring them into your life and all will be well.
